APPLICATION DESIGN 2014
DIY Dabba is an app for the urban Indian. It gives the young and busy Indian an easy way of making a good and healthy home cooked meal.
The idea was born from my own experience as a young professional living away from home in a new city. It provides recipes to user, using ingredients as a filter. This is to ease the application of buying and cooking, with ingredients you may find in your refrigerator.
The icon in the logo depicts a sandwich and a chef’s hat at once. The sandwich represents the ease of preparation and draws from the word “dabba” which means lunchbox in Hindi. The chef’s hat represents the act of cooking. As cooking is mostly looked at as a chore, the fun and vibrant colours chosen for the identity are fun and vibrant. As colours, they can be easily associated with food.
